Thank you to the volunteers
The museum organises an annual Christmas meal as a way to say thank you to the volunteers and to show our appreciation of their sterling work, they are the unsung heroes of the organisation. The small team of dedicated volunteers provide invaluable support to the museum. They work on a variety of tasks, such as helping with the programme of special events for families and the education service for schools. Others may research the many written enquiries that the museum receives every year, or help to look after or document the collection. At the heart of the museum is the front of house role. This entails welcoming visitors, answering questions about the Regiment, assisting family historians, shop sales and invigilation. These volunteers are often the public’s main contact with the museum and can make all the difference to the visitor experience, making it enjoyable and memorable. As one volunteer remarked ‘It’s never boring at the museum’! The museum would not be able to operate without volunteers. They even provide cover for the Museum Assistant which enables him to have some holiday!
